Finally found Mary Rutherford's DC, but her parents box is left empty along with the cause of death, why would this be?

Questions rather than answers...

Who reported the death - was it a stranger, rather than a relative? Any chance of an RCE (Register of Corrected Entries) notation in the margin?

All the best,

AndrewP

It was just her son, John. No notations whatso ever.

I tried uploading the file but I cant work out how to delete older files in order to create more space for it.

Another set of questions...

Any idea about the word(?) at the bottom of the cause of death box. Is it "Un" or "Unc", short for uncertified maybe, or unknown? or is it something else altogether?

All the best,

AndrewP

As far as the parents bit is concerned, assuming her son was a good age himself, possibility he didn't know?

I'd have thought the cause of death being missing is strange, but I'm sure some of the great people here will be along soon with an answer. I have seen a DC like this before on the same form as what I thought was a relative (wasn't) and wondered about it, too.

Hello Pandabean

Just a wild thought on this DC. It could be that the son only found out a few days after her death and went off on a bit of tangent. He could have gone straight from the pub and was foo. As the next deaths on the page are three/five days after her death. But of course this is only a wild guess on my part. And he might also have been in his sixties himself and the mind wasnt working as well as it used to. :?:

Looks like John signed with a mark-- could he have been a bit simple as well as illiterate and not known how to answer? Or, perhaps they couldn't afford to have a doctor come and certify the death. Just hypothesizing here.

The last one on the page is bizarre... poor little William Daniel Miller died at 11 months of age, after having the condition of "premature birth" for 2 days  Now explain that!
