Karen,
Can't help you with your adoption query though I was interested in the response as I have also found an adopted son on a 1955 death certificate. The reason I'm writing is I noticed Mitchell in your list of family names. My Mitchells came from Aberdeenshire but some of them ended up in Glasgow in the early 20th century. Any possibility of a connection?
Have in the tree two brothers George and Peter Mitchell married to two sisters Martha and Margaret Russell, if that rings any bells.
