Greetings All:
Wanted to share with you the response from SP on the above.
"Thank you for your e-mail. I have taken a look at the entry mentioned in your message and can confirm that it is technically correct. To explain, all individuals are indexed under any name they may have been known as at any point in their life. For example, if a child was born what was then termed 'illegitimate', he/she would be indexed under both the mother's maiden name and the father's name (if known). If the mother then married another man the child would additionally be indexed under the stepfather's name, as well as that of any further stepfathers should the mother marry more than once.
In the same way all females are indexed under both their maiden and married name at death (if applicable). This is because a woman never actually loses her maiden name even when taking her husband's name at marriage, which she is not obliged to do: she is technically the same person she was at birth.
As you noted in your e-mail, the individual has a surname of Hutchison, and also Allen after his father, but it appears that his mother's maiden name was Feeney, and that John was born out of wedlock. This is why he would be additionally indexed under his mother's maiden name, as well as that of his stepfather (Hutchison) and father (Allen), and subsequently why this individual was returned in your search."
After reading this, Ive come to discover that I have SO much more to learn about genealogy, and research. Ive made a pact with myself to actually READ, the help screens!!!!

I don't think I'm alone in this, but I always try to decipher the documents posted before moving on to all the responses.
I can practice and see if what I come up with, fits with the interpretation of other members. It also helps to think the puzzles through to a likely conclusion.
So, thanks for posting the reply from SP, which always lets me know if I was on the right track or not.
