william chalmers death certificate help please.....

Post by maggie » Mon Jul 10, 2006 1:00 am

Hello
can anyone please help me find a death cert for William Chalmers
I have him in the 1851 census at Smiths Land Fox Lane south Leith
and up until tonight i thought he had been yet another inconsiderate ancestor that popped off this mortal earth in the 4 year space between the 1851 census and registration in 1855 .But on going over" old ground"
i now have 2 marriage certs for his children one in 1859 that dosen't give him as deceased and one in 1860 again he is not recorded as being deceased . He is recorded as being deceased in another childs marriage cert in the year 1871 and possibly he has been dead a few years as the wife could possibly have re-married she is on this marriage cert as being a Fletcher and her maiden name was Sinclair as i have the OPR extract
and Sinclair also ties in with what was on the poor relief record for the daughter Elizabeth who's marriage in 1871 states he's dead
In 1851 his age is given as being 38 .I have never been able to find Janet Sinclair/Chalmers/Fletcher either but that another story...
On Williams sons death in 1869 it gives both parents as being deceased ,
so somewhere between 1860 and 1869 is where i have been looking without any Joy  Can anyone point out what to try
kind regards maggie

Give 3 such separate marriage records, 2 in 1859 and 1 in 1860, I'd have thought that this information could be trusted, ........

Hi Maggie,

I found a marriage for JANET SINCLAIR and WILIAM CHALMERS
26 February 1847 SOUTH LEITH.
Her Father is noted as James SINCLAIR.
Could this be them ?

hello
Just to add further confusion to this on going saga
i have found this

in the 1861 i have found a william chalmers age 49 in Glasgow with a wife Agnes and step daughter Mary Ward age 19,
This william was born Edinburgh and has the right occupation -fireman bottle,
but i can find no record of a marriage on sp i can't find this Williams DC to rule him out or in?
i have found this Agnes' death cert in 1879
it gives widow of William Chalmers and wife of William McGrady unfortunatly there is a blank line for Williams occupation
If this is "my " William then this is 3rd wife ??
I have tried looking for a marriage of Ward & McGrady and drawn a blank
i have also found a death for one of his sons in 1863 and that records him as being deceased so now i am only looking at a 5 year span for a DC for William if all the info on the various certs are true.

going back to the 1851 census can i have opinions please as to his birthplace which i will put in the gallery for approval

http://talkingscot.com/gallery/displayi ... p?pos=-665

i just can't see the wood for the trees with this one at all
or prehaps i'm barking up a wrong tree entirely?
any suggestions will be much appreciated
kind regards
maggie

Hello Maggie,

Can't help much but it looks as though Penicuik has been scored out and I can't make out what has been written in except Midlothian.

Could it be Glencross?
Which seems to be an alternate spelling of Glencorse.
