Lookup

Post by Pandabean » Wed Aug 16, 2006 8:52 am

Has anyone got a spare credit to do a lookup for me at all?

I found John Bett on familysearch
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... search.asp

1. John Bett - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: About 1729 Of, Aberdour, Fife, Scotland

I did a quick search on SP and found a birth in 1728? for this name but it wasnt Aberdour. Can anyone do a quick check for me please?

Thank You.
Andy

Sorry about the duplicate post. Must be those gremlins in the machine here.

Ninatoo:
Thanks for looking that up.
I do not know whether to go with the 1728 birth. Leuchars as far as I know is located in Fife and Newburgh is just north of Aberdeen.

So is more likely that John and Christian Melvill are the likely candidates?

I think you will find that Newburgh is in North Fife beside the River Tay. I am not sure offhand which parish is nearest to Aberdour.

Aberdour is surrounded by: Dalgety, Dunfermline, Beath, Auchtertool and Burntisland.
And Newburgh is definately in Fife, along with Leuchars!

Best wishes
Lesley

Now I am lost.

The son John was born in Aberdour according to FamilySearch which as you have listed Lesley is not near Newburgh or Fife.

John married a Christian Hoggan in 21/12/1754 in Aberdour and again 26/12/1754 in Auchtertool.

Hi Pandabean
Oh dear, I'm confusing you now!
Aberdour is in Fife - along with all the rest of the parishes it is next door to. Aberdour is not that close to Newburgh - its about 35 miles away.
Newburgh is on the north coast of Fife, Aberdour is on the south coast of Fife.
Have a look at:
http://www.thefifepost.com/map.htm
John married a Christian Hoggan in 21/12/1754 in Aberdour and again 26/12/1754 in Auchtertool.
Looks like banns being read in both parishes - so one person was from one parish and the other from the other parish.

Best wishes
Lesley
