HUGH GILLAN birth cert look up please?

Hi,

I would be ever so pleased if someone could look up HUGH GILLAN's birth cert for me. I have his marriage but not his birth or death certs.

He was born 1857/8 in Duntocker, Dumbartonshire. I am trying to find out more about his parents, who I think are Peter Gillan and Catherine nee McGuigan. I am having trouble finding the right Peter on censuses and wanted to try and track down his age or marriage date. A round-the-houses way of doing things maybe, but its the only option I can think of at the moment!

The only HUGH GILLON I could find on IGI in that year range was this one...

Thanks both, but this is my problem, I can't find any record which matches both parents.
Peter and Catherine were listed on his marriage cert so those names have to be right (don't they?)
I got Hugh's approx age and birthplace from censuses so, assuming both bits are correct, why can't I find a birth to match?

Did he have any siblings?
What were both his parents' names?
Ages & birthplaces of all?

Hi Jack,

Parents names going by marriage cert = Peter Gillan and Catherine Gillan (nee McGuigan). Age on marriage cert from 1878 = 20.

Only found him on 1891/1901 so far. (well I didn't, someone kindly looked him up on here!) In Govan on 1891, in Yoker in 1901 with lots of kids.

Were any of the witnesses on Hugh's 1878 MC a possible brother?
Does his DC give the same parents as the MC?

This looks like your Hugh in 1881.
The Census District of Renfrew at that time covered an area on the north side of the River Clyde.
Scotstoun Place was about halfway between Yoker & the west end of Partick.

There is a Peter GILLON & 3 children in Old Kilpatrick 1851, but wife appears to be Ann....
I think it would be very useful for you to find Hugh in the 1861 & 1871 censuses.
