Hi Pretty Polly
...and welcome to Talking Scot
We don't really deal with very recent persons - some of Jessie's siblings may still be alive and we certainly do not deal with the living on this forum (present company excepted!
) Maybe one or two of our links here may of some help?

Otherwise you may need to pay a visit to New Register House in Edinburgh, or have someone go there for you, or contact them directly for her birth entry.

Thank you Lesley for your quick reply and advice. Perhaps I assumed there would be no living relatives given the given time. I will certainly consider contacting the Register House in Edinburgh for details.

Hi PrettyPolly
None of the names you give has come up on IGI and I wondered where you got your info from/
Do you have Jessie's Death Certificate and/or Marriage certificate?
Was her marriage outside the Established Church of Scotland?
I'm looking for an explanation of why nothing is showing in the usual quick search sources.
Have you looked for her birth on the Old Parochial Records either on LDS films or on scotlandspeople?
We are looking for various families in Coatbridge/Airdrie/Monkland around that time and some are quite hard to find.
If you can locate one it should be possible to find the others. It may be a different spelling of the names or possibly religious difference meaning the records are not yet available.

Thank you Tom-W for your assistance. No, I do not have Jessie's marriage certificate. All I know is that both Jessie's parents were deceased at the time of Jessie's death in 1881.

Jessie GARDNER (nee RUSSELL)
Hello Russell. I do not have Jessie's original death certificate in my possession. This information has been passed on to me - that her parents Alexander Russel, handloom weaver and Marion Laidlaw, were deceased at the time. Information given to Registrar by: James Gardner, son.
On the marriage certificate of Jessie's daughter Marion GARDNER to Alexander THOMSON it refers to her mother as Janet GARDINER ms RUSSELL and the Minister of the Free Church of Scotland, Dalziel, Motherwell.
Another thing also, somewhere I remember I saw the name RUSSELL spelt RUFSEL.

Hello Prettypolly
The names Jessie and Janet are interchangeable.
See http://www.whatsinaname.net/index.html
Also it was common practice in the 19th century to spell names with 2 "S's" in them as "fs"
If you take a look at www.Familysearch.org and search for the birth of Janet, you will find that she was born in 1855. The magical year.......lots of info on this birth cert
If this is the correct Janet!!!!
If you then get this birth cert from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk you will be off to a good start..
