Missing Marriage Cert.....

Post by hwaddell » Tue Sep 05, 2006 10:21 pm

Hi first time user, please be nice. :)
I am trying to find out why I cannot find my great great grandparents marriage record on scotlandspeople even though I know they got married on March 16th 1860 kirkmabrek because it says on their sons(william waddell) birth certificate. They were William Waddell a shoemaker and Nancy Burnie Bigham. Any help would be fantastic.

I think they moved between Kirkmabreck and wigtown.
Thanks Hayley

Hi Hayley,

There is an IGI entry for their marriage, 16/3/1860 at Kirkmabreck.

Your William's surname is down as Waddle.

I'm out of credits on SP but I did a quick check putting Wadd* in the surname, Will as first name, and just Bigham for spouse and it comes up with one match......hope it's yours.

Good luck
Donna

Hi Hayley

Welcome to Talkingscot :)

I just did a search on scotlandspeople using only William Waddell and the year 1860 and there was only 1 result. Is this not them ?
I cant view it as have no credits. There are lots of experts here on how to use wild cards on sp so hang on in there and one will surely be along !

Scotland - Donaldson / Moggach / Shaw / Geddes / Sim / Gray / Mackie / Richards / Joel / Coull / Mckimmie / Panton / McGregor
Ireland and Scotland - Casey / McDade / Phillips / McCandle / Dinely / Comaskey + various spellings

:D Jockbird what a star I have just checked and it was down under waddle, I had already checked waddel and waddell. :D I havn't had much success with IGI the past but will try again, the handwriting is very hard to read and will take a bit of working out.

Thanks so much.

Hayley

Hi Hayley

I would try Will* Wad*e* to cover Waddell/Wadell/Waddelle/Waddle
Then just Bigham as Donna suggested or Bi*gham to cover the chance that Bingham has been entered.
Not entirely foolproof keeping in mind the spelling variations that crop up but there are not too many other similar names to creep in to the search.

Good luck on SP

Working on: Oman, Brock, Miller/Millar, in Caithness.
Roan/Rowan, Hastings, Sharp, Lapraik in Ayr & Kirkcudbrightshire.
Johnston, Reside, Lyle all over the place !
McGilvray(spelt 26 different ways)
Watson, Morton, Anderson, Tawse, in Kilrenny

Hayley,

That's great news. :D

Happy to have been of help but I can't take the credit as I'm only applying all the tips etc that I've learned from the good people on here.

Good luck with the rest of your search.
