Hello thomsos,

I don't have enough credits to look on SP but have you checked the Hugh McQuaker who died at Girvan in 1873 age 71? They could be totally unrelated but there is also a Mary McQuaker who died at Girvan in 1866 age 70.

Kind regards,
Annette M

Yes I found this one too, but on Jane’s d.c. it definitely says her mother’s name is Mary Mcfeddries.

Hi Thomsos,

This should be them in the 1881 census.

Dwelling: 10 Dollors Row
Census Place: Riccarton, Ayr, Scotland
Source: FHL Film 0203607 GRO Ref Volume 611 EnumDist 6 Page 5
Marr Age Sex Birthplace
William JAMIESON M 64 M New Dailly, Ayr, Scotland
Rel: Head
Occ: Colliery Blacksmith
Jean JAMIESON M 64 F Kirkmichael, Ayr, Scotland
Rel: Wife
Occ: Blacksmiths Wife

On Jane's dc, was William's occupation given as a blacksmithor similar?

All the best,

AndrewP

Go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and use the cross check search utilising both surnames to search for a match for a female death with the surnames M*cQ*r and M*cFed* , and there's only one in Girvan showing her as a widow, with the informant, her daughter, having provided the names of her grandparents.

The death register entry in question is for an Agnes, but I'd tend to believe that the chances of more than one marriage between a McQUAKER and a McFEDDRIES were minimal, especially in the same area, - Girvan being "next door" to Kirkmichael parish.

Agnes and Hugh are there in Girvan in the 1841 and 1851 censuses, but there's no Mary of a suitable age, in Girvan at least. Looks like this Hugh died between the date of the 1851 census and 31Dec1854 ......... in 1851 this Hugh is shown as 60 ........

I reckon Hugh was born before 1800, so not sure if Hugh who died in 1873 would be him, but will check it out
