Hi all,
I am going to upload the DC of a GGGuncles wife. I already knew from the husbands poorlaw applications that she had committed suicide in gaol. Can't work out the rest of what it say in cause of death. The first bit is obviously suicide by hanging. Also what does the fathers last name look like to everyone.
She has always made me very sad this one. This was not her first stay inside. She was also locked up when her 8th(and 3rd surviving) child was born in 1855. Also on the 1841 census hubby is living with his mother and is recorded as UM just after they were married so guessing she was probably also inside then. Have searched NAS trying to find some sort of record for her to find out what she was doing to keep getting locked up but have never been able to find any thing. Where else might there be records of what she was in for or would anyone be able to find out for me.
(got some of this info wrong as I was going from memory, it was the 1851 census that she was not with hubby, but I think I have now located her)
The last name should be LOCHIEL (Lochell, Locheil and a few variations) and I have quite a few variations on her last name, McCANN,McEWAN,McGAVIN and KERR.

The name is clearly recorded as LOCHEAD, Susannah.
and the Col. 6 entry is ....
"Suicide by hanging herself: seen ???? after by John Borland, MD, Kilmarnock"
Can't for the life of me make out that word between "seen" and "after", - it would normally be some form of reference to the time since the event.
Where a doctor's name appears as having certified a death in Scotland, without any qualification, then this means that the doctor was regularly attending the person prior to their death.
Where that was not the case, then that must be made clear, as here.

Hi David and Jack,
Thank you both. After I saw what David said the other words were I thought the mystery word started with an "S", and soon would make sense.
Can anyone make out the fathers name?
Karen

PS Note where the death took place, and that the Procurator Fiscal has also signed the Informant section, rather than there being an RCE entry, - this being 1860 and the RCE system hadn't quite yet settled down.........

Hi David,
Is there any significance in this for me , or are you just pointing it out as an example of how things took a while to change?

No particular significance for your situation, - it jus occurred to me that it would be best for others reading the thread to explain why there wasn't an RCE entry.
