My gggrandmother drowned in the Monkland Canal 23 Dec 1908 (asphyxiation by drowning)she was aged 72 in the DC, there is an RCE dated 19 Jan 1909 so I will have to wait until the RCE's are online.
I hadn't thought of looking to see if there was anything in the local papers about the drowning, as she was just a poor women.

I will have to check to see what newspapers were around and if there available online to have a look.
For some reason I have thought that she might have slipped on the ice or something like that, alcohol doesn't appear to have a family history in that side of the family

But of course who knows
