Laird query.....

Post by Dennis » Tue Apr 19, 2005 10:30 pm

Hello. I have a marriage of John Laird to Mary Milne July 21, 1850 in Forfar, Angus, Scotland. They had many children; however there are two (2), both named William, for whom I have a problem. The 1st William was born in 1851, and the 2nd William was born in 1860. Right, I figure, the 2nd William was named after the infant death of the 1st William. Not that easy it would appear. I can find no death record for the 1st William, and the 2nd William died 11 weeks after birth.

I guess its possible that the 1st William died prior to 2nd William's birth and that naming a 2nd child William was asking for trouble.

William (1) dob June 30, 1851 Forfar, Angus, Scotland
dod ?

William (2) dob April 2, 1860 Forfar, Angus, Scotland
dod June 16, 1860 Forfar, Angus, Scotland

Hello Dennis,

Remember - statutory records did not start till 1855 so if the first William died before then you will not find any record on Scotlands People.

Hi Dennis,This may be the case however I have a family with 2 Margaret's .They both lived to adulthood and marry but they did not always use their middle names so I had a really fun time finding out which one was my great Grandmother.
