Can't find a death registration

Post by ninatoo » Tue Nov 28, 2006 9:01 am

Mark Cunningham, born about 1825 in Co. Antrim married Margaret Madden in 1854, Glasgow. They had three children, the last born March 1859. By the 1861 census, she is a widow in Glasgow. But I can't find his death registration. Any help please?

Hi Nina,

Although it would seem Cunningham is a pretty straightforward name, have you tried using wildcards. I was searching for ages on SP for a Matthew Cunningham's marriage and eventually found it under Kinningham! It wasn't a mis-transcription either. I think registrar was having a bad day, or maybe had had one too many [5 cups]

Kind regards,

Alison

Thanks for the reply Alison,

Yes I tried wildcards, but not for the first letter, so I had another fiddle, and no joy. Weird!

Hi Nina,

Sorry to ask a daft question but was he around at the time of the birth of the last kiddie born in 1859 or was the mother the informant?

If he died in between fathering the child and the wee one being born then you'd be looking at a death from about July 1858 onwards....that's assuming Mark died and didn't just 'go away'....I've got one like that but not found the death yet.

Good luck
Donna

No wildcard required surely, - he's there in 1859, 32 years old, but in that year the marital status only is shown, - not the name of the spouse.

Not Glasgow or Lanarkshire, however, but the occupation matches.

Thanks for the help all. Yes David was right, this does seem to be my Mark, but when the age indexed as U even though the age is clearly on the certificate, and the place as Renfrewshire not Lanark, I was sure it couldn't be mine .
