Charles Badenoch Scott

With a name like that, you'd think his BC would be relatively easy to find. Not a chance [sigh]

I've even tried English records, even though he was a Scot (or had certainly lived there long enough to have a Scottish accent), and Ancestry Ireland.

He's the man my Great Grandmother, Margaret MacDonald m.s. Girtridge/Girtrig/Girtrigg/Gurtrigg etc..., etc..., etc... married a few years after her 1st died at sea, (can't find MC, so don't know when this 2nd marriage happened, but it had to have been after 1901).

He was still alive during my lifetime, so no DC online to get his parents' names.

Any suggestions?

Hi Mary,

His birth is there on ScotlandsPeople on 1868 as Charles Badnoch Scott in Dunbartonshire.

I found him by searching for *bad* Scott which returned two results. The other is Ann Badenoch Scott, of 1870 in Banffshire. She is not of the same family according to the IGI.

All the best,

AndrewP

Andrew, you're a star! Can't understand why he didn't show up in a straight "Charles Scott" search, though. Weird!

Now, if his marriage to my Great Grandmother would just show up, I'd be set, but I've tried every wildcard combination, used both her maiden and 1st married surname, excluding ANY male details, and still nuttin!

[comp-hammer] doesn't work either

Sorry I have no credits left but I found a marriage in 1929 Glasgow City
for Charles Scott and Margaret M*cdonald.
Could this be them?

If you mean the one in Plantation district, sorry I found that one a while ago and thought I'd cracked it, but it isn't them.

I'm beginning to wonder of they did actually get married at all.

Hi Mary,

Had a few minutes in NRH today so looked this up for you.

Charles Badnoch Scott married Margaret Ross McDonald in Blythswood,Glasgow in 1932(entry 644/10 2085). Unfortunately there was no image available online and I didn't have time to go and seek out the microfiche copy.

Charles died in Kelvin, Glasgow on 6th May 1961(entry 644/7 684). He was 93 years old and was a Sugar Traveller (Retired) of 54 South Woodside Road, Glasgow.Widower of Margaret Crichton or McDonald. Father Thomas Scott, Plumber (dec'd) Mother Margaret Scott m/s Badnoch (dec'd). Informant was his daughter <line with name and address edited as person may still be living. LesleyB>

<passage edited as person may still be living. LesleyB>

I'm assuming you have the 1951 death cert of Margaret Ross Scott or McDonald or Crichton.

Hope this is of some help.

Isobel

Hi Isobel,

Thank you so much for looking for them for me. I was beginning to wonder if they actually got married! I knew I knew him, but could not remember for how long. Seems I was 13 when he died.

I got his parents' names from his BC, but wasn't sure about any children. If he had a daughter, she certainly wasn't my Great Grandmother's as they must have been 63 and 64 years of age when they got married. As she lost her first husband in 1899 when she was only 30 years old, she waited for a long time before marrying again.

Oh, and yes, I do have Margaret's DC. Again, thank you so much. =D>
