Faded Birth extract

Post by Nessie » Thu Dec 14, 2006 3:45 pm

I have a faded copy of Birth Extract
Hector Macdonald born of the 16th January 02 has been registered by me at Entry 104 of my Register Book 204 Witnessed my hand 17th February 02 Wm. S. McNeill Deputy Registrar.
The Sub District is so faded it cannot be read.
Is there anyway I can find the district for entry 104 book 204 or Wm S McNeill.
I have tried in scotland people for him in 1902. Only one comes up for Inverness, and I am sure that this is not him.
Has anyone comes across this deputy registrar before ?

I know that the OPR reg 104 was for Laggan, Inverness, but whether it still is by 1902 I couldn't say.

I don't think it would have been changed to an entirely different County.

McDonald or MacDonald (some couldn't make up their mind!), Bonner, Crichton, McKillop, Campbell, Cameron, Gitrig (+other spellings), Clark, Sloan, Stewart, McCutcheon, Ireland (the surname)

Hi Nessie and Mary,
Registration District 204-1 is INVERURIE Burgh & 204-2 is INVERURIE Landward.
So the birth should be Aberdeenshire.
Maybe Hector is indexed as a "Mc" and not "Mac"?
I can't see there being very many Hector M(a)cDONALDs born in Inverurie 1902.
(but you never know!)

Hello Nessie,

however bad the extract is, uploading an image would help. At present, I can not see it being 1902.

There are 6 M*cDonald births indexed in Inverurie from 1900 to 1905. None of them are entry 104 or similar, and none are likely to be mistaken for Hector.

Back to the drawing board, I'm afraid.

All the best,

Hello Nessie,

do not lose your credits by looking at 1902 births, since I have looked at the likely candidates all over Scotland. As I wrote earlier, I think that we need to see the certificate to proceed.

John
