Can't find marriage certificate - 1903

Hello
Trying to find marriage certificate for John Falconer and Georgina Macleod who married 8th Sept 1903 in Peterhaed.
Have tried all sorts of combinations,wildcards etc but can't find them.
What am I doing wrong?

I tried a number of wildcard combinations, extended the years to ±3 years of 1903 and to any part of Aberdeenshire. Still no useful results.

How do you know the date & place of marriage? Was it on a birth record?

Yes it is on several of the birth certs I have for their family.

I would try searching by the Childrens names on IGI and it may throw something up.

I tried all sorts for Georgina & John and NOTHING appears for them .
Only Marriage for a Georgina Mcleod in the time frame is this.

It's not unusual in a situation such as this to find out that the marriage was irregular, and that the couple never went through the procedure of going to a Sheriff Court, obtaining a Warrant and then having the local registrar enter their marriage in the Register Book of Marriages.

(One sign that this was the case is variations in the date and place of marriage reported on the successive register entries for the births of children - in other words, the couple had to rely solely on their memories as they didn't have a piece of paper to refer to check the details!)

And don't worry, an irregular marriage was still perfectly legal.

Then again, it might just be an indexing problem ........

Thanks for your reply David -have just read your post re irregular marriages - so even if it's irregular there was no legal requirement to have any record of it?
