Death Record for Thomas Napier

Post by jfremont » Thu Dec 21, 2006 5:46 am

I have been unable to find a death record for my ggrandfather, Thomas Napier, b.1847 Glasgow. Verbal history handed down via my mother said he died in Scotland but I don’t know where. I believe he died sometime between 1874 and 1881 since son (my grandfather) John Napier was born June 1874 in Edinburgh and Isabella Napier, Thomas’s widow was in London with her two children in 1881. I have searched records in England just in case. The Napier family was mostly from Glasgow and I believe Thomas was connected to the ship building business along with some siblings. I have also checked wills and testaments to no avail. There is a Thomas Napier (mason per 1871 census) born the same year who lived in Rothesay and who seems to have died 1878 in Rothesay but I feel certain this is not my ggrandfather. In addition I have not found the birth record for John Napier either. I have his attestation papers which give date and place of birth however.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, John

Have you looked at the John Dalveen birth in July 1874 - mother Isabella Dalveen just in case.

Thanks Maureen for your response. I had found the IGI record and know who Thomas Napier’s parents were, John Napier and Janet Burton. My problem is to locate Thomas’s death record. He apparently died at a young age and I would like to know where and how.

Annette M, you have given me something I had not clued into. This John Dalveen could be John Napier. Maybe Thomas had already died by the time John was born.

I will let you know what I find.

John

As a follow up, I obtained the birth record for John Dalveen and feel there is a strong probability this is the birth record I am looking for. I had blinkers on and did not extend my lateral thought sufficiently.
It would appear that Thomas Napier's death may have been manufactured, and since I have had no success in locating him in Scotland so far, maybe he ventured to the New World or elsewhere.

This is an interesting turn of events. Thank you Maureen and Annette M. for the assistance.

John
