What you need to do is as follows.......
Based on the age at death from the death index, see which if any of the records most closely matches what you know about her year of birth, and, if there is a clear candidate, pay the 5 credits to see the actual death register entry, but only if there is a clear candidate, - and if it is the correct one, then it will show her as "married to" or "widow" of Andrew Morgan, but please don't take this route unless you are confident on the age matching what is known in terms of likely year of birth, otherwise ................
Taking the above information, search for the death of a Jane MORGAN, restricting the age and registration district to the info that you have, looking for an exact match.
Some researchers would argue for the second step before the first, but I reckon it's 6 of one and half a dozen of the other in this particular situation....... if there were more than 5 on your list, I might well agree with them

Re: death cert
If Andrew Bennet Morgan's death certificate of 1873 tells the truth, then the answer is "none of the above". He is listed as "widower of Jane Marshall.joyce wrote:hello

As DavidWW says, the way forward for this one is to find a JANE MORGAN death in the index with the same certificate number as a JANE MARSHALL.
The other twist in the tale is the IGI information that ANDREW BENNET MORGAN's children had the mother listed as ANN MARSHALL. So the death certificate could equally be for ANN MORGAN / MARSHALL. So if there are no matches for JANE MORGAN / JANE MARSHALL, then you have to start again looking for a match records for ANN MORGAN / MARSHALL.
Then of course there is the possibility that she died pre-1855, in which case there will be no death certificate to be found. The children were born between 1837 and 1844. The 1851 and 1861 censuses for Leith would be another place to be looking to try and narrow down a death date.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson
