I have previously posted a query about Janet McMaster mother of James Kelly. I have since found the marriage of her parents William McMaster and Margaret Cavan in the OPR. There is no mention of the names of their parents or their ages. The entry reads 'William McMaster and Margaret Cavan both in this parish (Stoneykirk) were enrolled for proclamation of banns three times first Lords day from 17th April 1814 years.' OPR 898/1 Fr 0288 Janet was born a month later on High Ardwell farm. I found four William McMasters in the same parish, their ages being 15, 46, 55 and 57 years old. The 57 and 15 year old both lived on High Ardwell farm with fathers called Hugh. Margaret is 50 on the 1841 census, making her 24 at the time of her marriage. Can anyone suggest a way forward.

It would seem that the 57 year old is the Father of Janet but could I find out? I cannot find any further reference to him. In the 1841 census of Stoneykirk Janet and her mother lived at Ardwell with Peter McMaster an 80 year old man of independent means. It would be great to be able to sort it out.
Thanks,
Lorna

Good morning Derek,
I am delighted to find another person connected with the family. We are looking at the same family. Janet is my gr.grandmotherx4
I have got a bit stuck going back further but am still working on it. The release of the OPR's online has been quite a help. Do you have any information about the family? I would be happy to share what I have.
Best wishes,
Lorna

Hello to Derek and to Lorna B.
Janet McMaster was my grandmother (x2) on my mother's side. I have traced her parents as William McMaster (1757 - 1841) and her mother as Margaret Caven (1780). I haven't found Margaret's death details yet, but she is on the 1861 census and named as deceased on Janet's death details (1862). I wonder if either of you have found this out?
William was born to Hugh McMaster (1719 - 1798) and Janet McCracken (1729 - 1798). I found their gravestone in Kirkmadrine churchyard. Margaret's parents were John Caven (b Inch, 1764) and Agnes Kelton (d 1801)
Janet's son John Kelly, who married Jane Cunningham, was my great-grandfather.Their daughter Maggie Kelly was my grandmother.
I'd be happy to exchange any other details I have if you are interested.
Regards,
Ken Reid

Good afternoon Ken,
I have only recently seen your message as I have been on holiday and then my computer needed repairing.
I do have more information about Janet McMaster and her family and would be pleased to exchange it with you. Thank you for the information that you have sent.
Best wishes,
