Janet had been married to Dugald Stewart in 1844. Dugald born c1819 died in 1894 and Janet born c1825 died in 1905. Janet's parents, as listed on the dc by her son-in-law were William Forrest and Abigail Forrest ( nee Sloan). I'm unable to find any marriage for them.

Hi Dennis,
Had a look at the birth record for one of the children - Abigail Sloan Stewart born September 25, 1864. It was signed by William Sloan, Assistant Registrar. Was she named after him?
Could it be the case that the son-in-law, knowing the surname as a middle name for Abigail, assumed it was a family name??
I don’t know - William Sloan could have been a relative as well??
Catherine

That's your image authenticated.

I've had a look on the IGI and agree with you that there is no sign of these people. Not as a birth for Janet, or on a parent search of the couple.
It is a reasonable starting point to take that the parents would be born about 1780 to 1805.

If the last two are correct in saying "U" (unmarried), then it is the Aberdeen one, or none of the above. Hopefully when the earlier censuses come online, the parents may be found.LDS CDs of 1881 census wrote: Dwelling: Water St

My strongest feeling is that "none of the above" is the correct answer. Assuming the occupations are correct and the marital statuses are correct, then it is none of them. The biggest possibility is that neither of them survived until 1881.
There are no Abigail Forrests who died in Scotland to be found within the right timeframe. From 1855 to 1954, there is one - in 1913. From the birth year of about 1780 to 1805, that death can be discounted. Using wildcard searches did not help (Ab*g*l*).
