Hi Julie,
Welcome to TalkingScot.
I don't know if you already have the following sightings of Stewart Waddell (by various spellings) over the years.
Stewart Waddell's death in 1872 shows her as a widow.
In the 1861 census, Stewart Waddel (widow) was in Anwoth, as a visitor in a household.
In the 1851 census, William & Stewart Waddle were in Aberdeen with two of their children.
In 1841 there is no sign of them in Scotland, but the younger child's details in the 1851 census imply that they may be in north-east England around 1841-1842.
All of these are available at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk .
There are only two deaths from 1855 to 1861 that might be him. One turns out to be single, the other has no information about the spouse, as was usually the case on death certificates from 1856 to 1860. The occupation (with a question mark beside) is far different from that given on the 1851 census. The Perthshire location is far from any of the other locations found on the other documents. This isn't enough to prove that it is or isn't him. My feeling is that this is not him and it is more likely that he died between the 1851 census and the end of 1854. I cannot prove that either.
If you are within reach of somewhere holding the OPR microfilms of Aberdeenshire, then it may be worth looking through the deaths on OPR 168a/37 - deaths (burials?) in Aberdeen, St Clements (1820-1854).
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Julie,
Welcome to Talking Scot!
I notice, checking your William's marriage in 1834 that it is a submitted entry, rather than an extracted one on the IGI. This means it was submitted by a member of the LDS church and may or may not correspond to a record that can be found in the parish records in the General Records Office of Scotland, to be found on Scotland's People website Have you found the actual marriage record? If not, that might be your first step.
That said, I have done a preliminary search on Scotland's People and it looks like the record may well be exactly as indicated on that submitted IGI entry.
Here they are in Aberdeen in 1851:
9 Commerce Street, Aberdeen St Clements, Aberdeenshire
Parish No: 168A
ED: 4
Page: 4
Household schedule no. 397
Line: 3
Roll: CSSCT1851_37
William Waddle, head, 60, born in Wigtown, Wigtownshire, Stoneware Merchant
Stewart Waddle, wife, 53, born in Kerkmaybrak, Galloway
William Stewart Waddle, son, 11, born Kerkmaybrak, Galloway, Scholar
Mary Waddle, daughter, 9, born in Beshop Auchland, Durham
Mary's birthplace gives you an idea of why they are not to be found on the Scottish 1841 census!
All the best,
Sarah
P.S. I see while I was doing this that you have already had two answers!

Hello Julie,
As Andrew said, by 1861 Stewart is a widow and back in Kirkcudbright. She is a visitor in the Kelly household. Her details:
Arkland, Anwoth, Kirkcudbright
Stewart Waddell, 60, visitor, born Kirkmabreck, Kirkcudbright, Fund holder
So... maybe the next thing is to try to find her death certificates, in hopes it will give her parents' names. There is one st*rt wa*dl who died in Kirkudbright in 1872. S/he was born about 1800, according to the age at death. Have you looked at this record?
Looks like your credit card is going to get some use!
All the best,
Sarah
