Hi everyone,
I've just uploaded the death certificate for Ann HUNTER (nee RUSSELL) to the Gallery and I'd appreciate any assistance in identfying her mother's maiden surname. At first glance I thought it was HORN, but it looks like the second letter might be an 'i'. I can't find any marriages on SP between a Peter RUSSELL and Jean HORN - although I know that she might have been called Jane or Janet or something else entirely

Hi Brian,
There is a marriage on ScotlandsPeople in 1807 in Cumbernauld for Peter Russell and Jean Horn.
All the best,

Brian,
It looks like Horn to me too.

I'll go for HORN as well.
In the same entry, look at the "o" in "Widow" and in "Chronic", - very similar to that in "Horn".

Hi Brian,
Ann (age 12) is at home with her parents and a couple of siblings in New Monkland parish in the 1841 census. Her marriage to David Hunter is listed in the IGI as October 1845, when presumably she was aged 16 or 17. On that basis, her age at death was a couple of years low - given as 62. The 1841 census report can be found on ScotlandsPeople. I would expect the OPR for their marriage to be available there too.
All the best,
AndrewP

Thanks everyone - I think it's definitely Horn. My eyes were going square yesterday and the letters seemed too scrunched up to be anything sensible!
AndrewP - Apologies, I've no idea why I couldn't find that Peter Russell/Jean Horn marriage on SP, it's definitely there tonight. I think I must have had a parish or county checked and didn't notice.

Her parents being married in Cumbernauld would make sense - Ann is listed as having been born in "Dunbartonshire, Cumbernauld" on the 1871 Census.
Best wishes
Brian
