Missing Death Certificate

Post by mcblondie » Thu Mar 01, 2007 4:06 pm

Hi again,

I'm having some trouble trying to locate a death certificate for one of my rellies. Michael McGrory who was married to Ann McGrory. Now Ann died in 1920 age 78 in Hamilton, Lanarkshire and on her cert it says widow of Michael McGrory... i've gone into SP and d/loaded numerous death certs for Michael but could only find his son's death cert in 1941 in Fife, for some reason or other I can't find Michael snr? obviously he died before 1920 as that's when Ann died and it states that she was his widow, so now i'm looking for ideas if anyone can help.

ta much x

Who was the informant? They could have been mistaken, confused, upset& he was alive.
They could have unaware of his death or otherwise-I have one where he married the 2nd Lassie he had impregnated & the first was left to bring up the child on her own.On her Death Certificate the son names her as Widow of-despite the fact they never married & he was in fact married to somebody else(or two somebody elses as a matter of fact).
It may also be worth searching on the assumption that it has been mis-indexed esp with Mc which can be Mac et al & Grory which could have several variations.

Michael McGrory, Ann's son is the informant.
I'll take your advice and see if there is one for a later date, as you say he may have been upset and confused.

Hi Katie,

What is the last trace of Michael McGrory being alive - censuses? informant/witness on birth, marriage or death certificate(s)?

Is this him in 1881 (before marriage)?

Thanks for the info Andrew,

Unfortunately none are mine. My Michael was married to Anne, I can find them on the 1851 in Avondale, Strathaven and then in Castle St, Hamilton in - 61 - 71 census, then i can find the family in the 1881 census but he's not there? it states that his son Bernard is the head of the house age 23 unmarried. The father doesn't seem to be on it. Yet i can't seem to find a death cert for him either around the late 1880's or early 1900's so just don't know what to make of this one??

Hi Katie,
Could this be Michael in 1891, in a lodging house full of unrelated people?

11 Murray St, Annan, Dumfriesshire
MIchael McCrory, 63, born Ireland, Gen Labourer (Unemployed)

All the best,
Sarah

Thanks Sarah,

I found the 1881 census on the family, i also found a cert which says his wife is a widow so i have now tried to find out when Michael died. Thanks for the help though.
