Susan Stewart Miller ms Cairns (?)

Post by george » Sat Apr 07, 2007 3:47 pm

Hello again everybody!!!!!! :D

I´m stopped at the beginning of the history.

I have the grandparents marriage record from SP.

My grandmother was recorded as:

(Name in full) Mary McDonald Miller
(Signature) Mary Miller

Usual residence
Cambunesthan, Wishaw

Father and Mother names:
William McDonald Miller
Church missionary (deceased)
Susan Stewart Miller
ms Cairns (deceased)

Well, I was finding on Census 1901 records, deaths records and Marriage Record but Susan Miller or Susan Cairns does not exist (related with William McDonald or with William Miller)

Can anyone give me an advice, please?

Best regards, George

Hello George,

I had a quick search on SP for Susan & William's marriage and I see what you mean.

When did your gran get married and what age was she then?

Kind regards,
Annette M

Hello again George,

There was a Margaret McDona* Miller born in Camlachie in 1898. Obviously I don't know if this is her but it may be worth a check on SP.

I searched the 1901 census and there is a 2 year old Margaret Miller living in Camlachie. Have you looked at this census record on SP?

Regards,
Annette M

Hi

I wonder if given father's occupation the family could have been abroad most of the time. I can't find them in 1901 in Scotland or England or a death for Susan.

There's a William McDonald MILLER born in 1884.

It could be worth contacting various missionary societies in Scotland, or even the head office ofthe Church of Scotland, which established the Scottish Missionary Society in 1796, but note that many other Scottish churches also sent missionaries abroad.

National Library of Scotland holds the following records...

Scottish Missionary Society MS.8986
Scottish Missionary Society MSS.8012-8014
Scottish Missionary Society MSS.8988-8989

For general info, see http://www.electricscotland.com/bible/c ... apter2.htm .
