Girtrig, Guthrig - whatever!

Robina Muirhead McKinnis Girtrig was born in Ayr on 23 Aug 1857. Father Thomas Girtrig, Mother Janet McBride.

On 13 Oct 1880 she gave birth to Janet Dick McConnell, but it was 1 June 1880 before she married William McConnell at 8 Kirk Port in Ayr (William signed as father to Janet). On the MC she is named as Robina Muirhead McInnes Guthrig and gives the same spelling for her parents.

On the 1881 census Robina and Janet, aged 6 months, are staying with John & Mary Richmond in St Cuthberts, Edinburgh. Mary is Robina's sister. There is no sign of William McConnell that I've found.

In 1891 wee Janet, aged 10, is staying with Robert & Janet Dick in Springburn, Glasgow. Janet Dick is another of Robina's sisters. Now no sign of either Robina or William.

Hi Mary,
The passenger list references that Susan found were sadly not the right Robina. I can't find their arrival. But, I finally found them in 1900 (she is indexed as "Alviana" (!) Their arrival info is yet again different, William & "Alviana" are listed as born in Ireland and I must say, it says "Alviana" pretty clearly! But, whatever... it certainly looks like the same family. Janet is with them They seem to have all come over at different times, except Agnes and Mary, who must have come over just after Mary's birth.
