just how far do the records go back?

Post by dmd1164 » Sat Apr 14, 2007 11:48 am

My direct paternal line is the Dickson line. So far I've managed (with some assistance) to go as far back as William Dickson b c1764 married to Nelly (Helen) Cairns b 1764. They were married in Eckford, Roxburgh, Scotland 14/04/1786.

Where would the best place for me to look next to find parents of William and Nelly?

Donna
Looking for Dickson, Reid, McGill lines in Scotland. Ord and Potter lines in England.

Hi Donna
This page gives you links to each county in Scotland and the OPR records which exist for each parish within the counties.
http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/famrec/h ... r-cov.html

However, even if it says birth are from, for example, 1732 onwards, for a particular parish it does not mean that there are no gaps in the records!!

Best wishes
Lesley
