re Cause of Death

Post by ASGROOMBRIDGE » Sat Apr 28, 2007 10:03 am

Late last night I found a death cert on my great great granfathers sister Marion Barr maiden name McGowan 18/10/1863 but the cause of death was blank. No correction of entry on the side which I would have expected had it been an accident. Has anyone any idea how common was it for the cause od death to be missed out.

Hello Audrey,

I know this has been discussed before but I can't find the thread.

I have had a couple, one being a 2 year old child, and they were in the 1860's too although I don't know if that has any significance.

Regards,
Annette M

Hi Audrey
I have just found a birth cert, she gave birth two months before she died.
If it were one of my lot, I'd be coming to the conclusion that some complication following the birth may have been the cause - difficult to tell without any further clues though. A sad story if that is the case, but it seems to have been not uncommon for either the birth itself, or problems following a birth to be the cause of death of quite a lot of women - it was a risky business haivng children. ....a sobering thought for all of us these days.

Best wishes
Lesley
