The Incedible Vanishing Family

Post by Dennis » Wed May 16, 2007 4:22 am

Hi,

I have a couple William Rothwell (1839) & Mary Lennox (1848) who had 7 kids ( all girls ) between 1864-1877. Only 1 of the girls is not on the 1881 census, Catherine b1869. I cannot find any of them on the 1871 or 1891 census.

All the girls & the father were born in St. Cuthberts.

For the 1881 census: Dwelling: 134 Canongate Wilsons Court 2

Any suggestions?

Hi Dennis,

They are there in 1871 as RUTHWELL - parents and three daughters.

Also there is a LENNOX family next door (born in Fife, as Mary was). Are they Mary's family (parents and siblings?).

No obvious sign of William or Mary in 1891. Daughter Elizabeth is with her grandmother Lennox, a host of cousins and an aunt and uncle in the same street as she was in 1871.

All the best,

AndrewP

Thank you AndrewP :)

The Lennox family next door are indeed Mary's parents John Lennox/Elizabeth Lennox (nee Drysdale) & two youngest siblings Henry Deas Lennox and James Hogg Lennox.
The 1891 census is quite the assortment on Bristo St.

What got you to try R'U'THWELL?

All the best. dennis
