Would Some One Be Kind Enough

Post by Miss Poohs » Fri May 18, 2007 5:53 pm

to check this for me because I'm not finding it!!

I'm looking for a marriage between Donald Beaton and Mary McLean 1858, Glasgow.

I just couldn't find anything, so ferreted out some of their children and checked the birth cert which states they were married 19th October 1858 in Glasgow.

I've tried - Beaton, Beeton, Beatton and Beston - nowt

I've also checked McLean and MacLean - but I'm not finding anything.

Me is beginning to think they were fibbin'

Just another magical disappering act of the purported MC.

There is a Donald Beaton that marries an Ann Furness 4 May 1855 in Anderston. Oddly enough his mum's mn was McLean.

So tell us what else you know about them. Does the marriage date vary on additional documents? Maybe it was just an irregular type and never got entered in the big book :D All guesses welcome!!

Best wishes
Jean

Well I have 3 children, John (1860), Sarah (1866) and Archibald (1868).

On Johns birth cert there is no marriage date recorded, but none of the other births on the same page have theirs either.

On both Sarah and Archies certs the marriage date is the same - surprise surprise!! Odd in its-self - I'm getting very cynical aren't I?

On Mary's death cert (1891) Donald is down there as the widower too

I canny work this oot. *scratch, scratch*

Hi Miss Poohs,

Birth certificates of 1856 to 1860 tend not to have the marriage details. It was not a requirement during these years.

All the best,

You're just a wee smasher :D

I had thought three children was a tad restrained!!! Or that perhaps that they hadn't survived, which perhaps they didn't as I have censuses for the family for 1861, 71, 81, 91 and for John in 1901 and there is no mention of the other children on them.

Many thanks.

Certainly looks like the first Sarah didn't survive.

I have been looking for your Marriage without success mainly because I have an interest in a Mary Mclean.
Your's is too early for my lot.

On the IGI site go to the righthand side, put in parents names enter Births in the Events and enter data in the Region and press search.
Good Luck.
