Deciphering name

Post by Archer » Thu May 31, 2007 10:32 am

The name of the mother on Jessie's marriage and birth certificate is unreadable, any ideas what its says.

There appears to be only one marriage between a Logan and a Lockhart in 1901 so I'm guessing this is correct but the woman's name doesn't look the same (its readable).

I see it as,

Margarit Logan - 1921 marriage

Margaret Logan - 1902 birth

Maggie Millar Logan - 1901 marriage

Do you think Margaret equals Maggie. Margaret would make sense, Jessie was a bit of traditionalists when it came to name her own children

Marriage - Knox/Lockhart (330) 1921 7th Oct
Walter Knox 30
Parents: George Knox (dec) and Elizabeth King (dec)
Jessie Inglis Lockhart 19
Parents: William Lockhart and Margarit Logan (dec)
Witnesses: Janet Haysmith Lockhart, Frasier R. Scott

Birth - Jessie (20) 1902 February third
Jessie Inglis Lockhart
Parents: William Lockhart, coal miner, Margaret Logan 1901 Feb 8th

Marriage - Lockhart/Logan (4) 1901 8 February
William Lockhart, coal miner,
Parents: Andrew Lockhart and Janet Haysmith
Maggie Millar Logan
Parents: David Logan and Jessie Inglis
Witnesses: John Lockhart, Jessie Logan

Is that too much of a coincidence? Is the Janet Haysmith Lockhart, witness at Jessie Inglis Lockhart's marriage, Jessie's mother Janet Lockhart, M.S. Haysmith, or did Jessie have a sister named Janet Haysmith Lockhart?

Thanks Kathy and Frances.

Jessie did have a sister named Janet, it looks like Margaret/Maggie named her daughters after her mother and mother in-law. A tradition Jessie carried on.
