Heck! Another one upped; the mc for Margaret McGregor.....

Post by Dennis » Mon Jun 06, 2005 9:18 pm

I'm on a run of bad luck today :(

I know that Margaret's mom's maiden name is probably Munro; but I can find nothing on her nor her marriage to Margaret's dad. Tried UKCen, IGI for GB alone, with Ireland, and with Scotland. Since her mom was still about at the time of the marriage in 1855 I thought I'd find a dc on her; but since I'm writing this then you know the outcome

I agree with you Dennis, the IGI bears no fruit for this couple - John McGregor and Mary Munro - no marriage, no sign of any births ar christenings. Even if the names are not accurate, the birthplace looks like Dollar (which ought to be Clackmannanshire), so I tried using the IGI batch number and bits and pieces of the names - still no luck. Tried again for Dunblane, Perthshire - still no luck.

SP shows 5 deaths for Mary M*cGregor or Munro between 1855 and 1920 (1920 seems far enough onwards for a parent of a child born in 1833). I take it you have looked at these and discounted them.

All the best,

Andrew Paterson

Hi Dennis,

Have you seen the birth on the IGI of Margaret MCGRIGOR born 11th July 1832 in Dollar, Clackmannshire - Father John McGRIGOR mother Mary NEILSON. Exactly a year out and in the exact location.
John and Mary were married in 1811 in Bothkennar, Stirling.

Regards,
Annette M

Hi Dennis,

You've propbably used wildcards for the Munro, but in case you haven't it may be worth a try.

I have a Monro in my tree which has been Monroe, Munro, etc.

Regards,

Alison
