Can't find death records

Post by trish58 » Tue Jul 24, 2007 4:34 am

Hello team

I need your help again, This time I am not able to find 2 death records,
first is my 3x Gr Gran. Margaret Ann Agnew nee Kennedy, b Stoneykirk

She appears on the 1851 census with husband James Agnew & children the youngest being Elizabeth age 1, the census just say, Ayr, Margaret is 41 years old.
On the 1861 census Husband James has a new wife (married in 1855)
there is also a child William age 9, who would have to belong to Margaret,
I have searched all records and not been able to trace her death, she must have died 1851-1855 between the 1851 census & James remarriage. Can you please help with this one ?????

My 2nd problem is Elizabeth Rae (nee Agnew) b1850 (Daughter of the above.
She married in 1872, had her last child in 1879, and husband Louis/Lewis
remarried in 1887, there is no record of her death either.
Elizabeth's Grandson is still alive age 93 living in Lancashire, he says that Elizabeth died in Scotland when his Mum (Elizabeth b 1877) was aged 7-8,
again there is no record of this death either.
Desperate to find these two missing pieces of the jigsaw, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks again
Trish (Australia)

Hi Trish
I have searched all records and not been able to trace her death, she must have died 1851-1855 between the 1851 census & James remarriage
If they were in Ayr in 1851 then that seems a likely place to start your search. Does the 1855 marriage entry give you any further clues? They are usually quite informative. It might also be worth getting hold of the following microfilm from your local LDS family history centre. (they should be able to order it in for you for a small fee)

578. AYR
578/13 B - M - D 1820-54

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Trish58:

There is a death for: Eli*abeth Rae (soundex on), 1879 to 1887, aged 29 – 37, all records, all districts, born 1850. Having said that, adding either Agnew or Kennedy in other surnames or mother’s maiden surname fields loses that hit.

Although ScotlandsPeople produces nothing for Margaret Ann Agnew, there are 14 (some within the proper age ranges) for Margaret Kennedy deaths in 1855, but again nothing surfaces with Agnew.

There is a marriage record listed for Elizabeth and Lewis on IGI for 14 June 1872 Tradeston, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland M119331 1855 - 1874 6035516 Although this is an extracted entry, there is both a Family and Pedigree record attached to it.

Can't find death records

Post by trish58 » Tue Jul 24, 2007 11:43 pm

Hi team

Thanks once again for your efforts, all the searches you pulled up are the same as my searches, same results nothing.
After spending $400 on SP for searches I will now go to my local LDS for assistance there,.

James married his 2nd wife 1 Jan 1855 at Stranrear, yes there is a lot of info on the certificate, but nothing that helps other than Margaret died between 1851-1854, not 1855

I just find it strange that niether of these Grans have a recorded death.
Again thanks for the help.

Best wishes to all out there
Trish

Trish
This could be your answer according to what you wrote she (Margaret) died prior to compulsory registration in 1855. So no legal requirement to register her death.

Can't find death records

Thanks Stewie

Yes you are probably correct on this one, but that doesn't account for Elizabeth's death 1879-1887.

I have an IGI in the next town to me, so will pay them a visit next week, hopefully I can send a "Good news" message to you all sometime soon.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks again

Hi Trish
I believe Louis(a widower) is living in Bolton in 1901 Census with daughter Elizabeth 23,son Francis 10 & daughter Mary 8. Francis & Mary are both shown as born in Ireland, perhaps this is why you can't find some of your family.
I also have family from Stoneykirk- Watson, McCutcheon, Edgar-they originally came from Ireland, but, also lived in the Govan area of Glasgow, close to Tradeston. There seemed to be a bit of movement back & forth from Scotland to Ireland throughout my ancestors lives including a 2nd Marriage in Ireland which foxed me for a long time.

Can't find death records

Hi Susan

Yes we have been there too, "no stone left un-turned" the Elizabeth on the 1901 census England still has a Son living age 93, and he insist that his Mum told him, her Mum Elizabeth 1851 remembers her passing away in Scotland when she was 7-8 years old, before they went to Ireland.

He is quite with it, plus tried Ireland (Enniscorthy) where I got my Grandfathers birth certificate, (Francis on the 1901 census.)

I think you are all just wonderful, and this is why I love this site so much, it is like one big family, thanks heaps guys/gals.

Hello Trish,

when and where were the children of Elizabeth Rae (ms Agnew) born? They may help in tracing the family.

Regards,

John
