Scotlands People service with a smile!

Post by joette » Thu Aug 16, 2007 9:15 am

I have been bashing away at my newly found connections the Rainhams.
Not too many of them in Scotland & a sad story with Mum & Dad dying within a month of each other & their youngest dying of Whooping cough just weeks before that at 11 months
I was excited when I realised that one of the girls was not at home for the 1871 Census but was in Abdie in Fife. She was only 10/11 so I thought she must be with rellies :D.Eagerly turned to view the Census but alas all that was there was a black blur!
I e-mailed SP & thought "Oh well I'll have to wait a few days for a paper copy" & with the Posties on Industrial action & me heading up to Scotland thought I would have to wait until Sept. :D :D Within a few hours there was an apologetic e-mail from SP with the attachment off the Census entry.
She was living with her Auntie Francis Edminston which led me to about three further generations of Rainhams & solved the mystery of a missing maiden name for Francis &William Rainham's mother.
I then went to Francis's OPR Marriage to David Edminston in 1847 but alas it was the wrong page! I had instead 1848 Marriages for Inverary.Again a positive response from SP & the image was in my in-box within a couple of hours!
I find very few misindexing on SP which is amazing when you consider how extensive their records are.I was so pleased to have such quick & efficient service when I reported the problem. If only other organisations were so prompt!
Thanks again Eilleen for all your good work. :D :D
PS This is a connection through my Great-Aunt & I am  to confess that I hadn't even added her or hubbie to my tree or the rest of my Granny's siblings"Well I know all that in my head & will add it when I have time".Two Great-Aunts married Englishmen & I think it is because I am loath to venture South in my searching which has put me off thus far

Great stuff, Joette =D>

Like you, I have come across very few misindexed or illegible entries on SP, but they have always come up trumps and sent me the image.

I've had to try negotiating the English records as one of my Grandmother's uncles swanned off to London with his Canadian wife and had nine children there, but have had to restrict myself to ordering only one each BC, MC and DC for one of them as a sort of "confirmation" I have the right family. The cost of these could have got me loads of SP credits and immediate access to the images :? .
