George Carruthers

Please would you help me find some background information on a George Carruthers.
He was born in Dumfries in about 1814 and moved to Ashby de la Zouch Leicestershire in time to be picked up by the 1841 census. George had been married in Dumfries? to Margaret (surname not known) and by the census of 1851 had moved with wife and 4 children to Ashby. George is descibed in 1841 as a draper but in 1851 as a "landed proprietor". We have no record of his death in Ashby. He then masterminded the arrival in Ashby of an influx of "travelling drapers" from the Dumfries area including the Jardine, the Fair and later the Blacklock families. These families and George's descendants dominated the travelling draper scene in Ashby until well into the 1900s.
Thank you in advance Osgathorpe
