Re: McINTOSH Family of Glasgow?
To Dimac, I have just discovered your website needing information re Alexander [Sandy] McIntosh of McIntosh Bay [now Menzies Bay unfortunately] I have a huge amount of information.A family tree was compiled a few years ago and a copy was given to me. I am a direct descendant of Alexanders and have a big interest in the family. The Crotty family twice married into the McIntosh family and my grandmother Clara Crotty married my grandfather William McFarlane McIntosh. Both were born in The Bays. William was the son of Henry one of the triplets. Enough for the time being. too much to put on here. It would be good to speak to you in person or meet you sometime. Where do you live? I am in Howick Auckland phone me [PM me for the number] Ngaire Taylor [nee McIntosh]
Hi Ngaire I edited out your personal number. Our policy is to avoid too much personal detail like e-mail addresses and use the privacy of the Personal Message system(PM) instead. Hope you don't mind. Russell
PS delighted you found us and are able to offer such great information

Re: McINTOSH Family of Glasgow?
I'm descended from Alexander McIntosh and have been researching my family tree since 1996 after years of waiting for someone else to do the work. Since I was five I have been told family stories and when I read the London arrived in Wellington on 25/12/1840, I started to search for the truth as I had a different date. It turns out the London arrived on 12/12/1840. Reading the posts on this forum I see a number of mistakes so here is the information on the family.
Alexander McIntosh was born in summer 1799 in Glasgow and died 1881 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He married Margaret MacFarlane on16/11/1827. She never had the middle name Oliphant. Her parent's were Henry MacFarlane and Christina Jackson. They were married on 14/11/1802. Margaret was christened 30/8/1803 and died 1881 in Christchurch. Her death records have her middle name as Oliphant which is the only time it appears. Chrildren as follows
1 Mary Ann McIntosh 1829-1830
2 John 1832-1900
Triplets,
3 Lavinia 1832-1887
4 Catherine [Kitty] 1832-1899
5 Henry 1832-1906
6 Margaret 1835-1906 [My ancestor]
7 Mary Anne 1838-1905
8 John Alexander [Jock] 1839-1899 [Adopted ?]
[These were the children who arrived on the London except for Mary Ann],
9 Thomas 25/1/1842-1902, [Ginger Tom]
10 Christina 27/10/1842-1933 [Adopted ?]
Alexander and Margaret had 74 grandchildren. I will be working on the McIntosh story to forward to Ginnie of Little Akaloa. I have over 3,000 descendants of Alexander and Margaret.

I am also a direct descendant of Alexander McIntosh. My grandmother was Millicent Black, youngest daughter of John Alexander. I am also working on a family tree and would love to connect with John Reed or Ginnie. In 2008 I did a very quick tiki tour around Banks Penninsular looking for anything I could find and taking photos. I would also love to see the family tree previously compiled mentioned by Ngaire Taylor.

I have looked at my tree and don't have you in it. I have posted a PM to you which I also did with Susan Glentworth. For months I have been looking at the inbox for replies and as there wasn't a number beside it, I assumed there was no PM's to me. For some reason I clicked the inbox and found one from Susan. I rang her and now have met.

Alexander (Sandy) McIntosh as stated on his death certificate was born in Perth not Glasgow and was 82 years old at the time of his death. Thus making his birth year 1799.
