Just discovered the 1939 Register
Is there a Scottish equivalent of the Register ?

Cheers,

Hi Maureen,

Yes, it exists.

http://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/statistics ... al-extract

I have never tried to access this register. Like the one for England and Wales, access is restricted to records of people who can be shown to be deceased, by showing the appropriate records.

For England and Wales, it is online with people over 100 years of age all shown. Others (which are blanked out on the online records) can be shown by application, where you can demonstrate that the person is now deceased.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for that.
Will have a look as all those I am interested in are long gone.
Might help break down some ](*,)

These records were kept updated until 1992 in England and Wales (Scotland too?) so often have lots of extra information e.g. marriage date and dates of death too.

Best wishes,
Meg

:? Disappointed here as this is not an online search site like the English and Welsh one .
Either that or I am doing something wrong !

You are not doing anything wrong .... unfortunately you are required to make an application on their form with the details of the individual (surname/forename date of birth and date of death - if the latter happened outside Scotland you need to provide proof of death) and the fee £15
