Salford lookup
Hi all
After 12 years restarting my research now I have retired
I have been trying to confirm a date of death for an Ebenezer Brisbane born 1788 in Closeburn
I discovered on another tree a date of death of 15/9/1861 in Greenock but I cannot trace on SP I then found a record for him of same date if death but in Salford I tried contacting person to confirm but no reply
I have tried to find Salford records but still a novice at this and was wondering if anyone could help
Much appreciated
Carol

Re: Salford lookup
Hi Carol,
The only Ebenezer Brisbane deaths on ScotlandsPeople don't match the birth year of 1788.
>> 1868, age 0, Neilston, mother's maiden surname Caldwell
>> 1892, age 52, Greenock East, mother's maiden surname Rankin
On widening the search out to surname [blank] and first name Eb* with a birth year of 1788 ± 5 years produces 41 results, but not with a surname that could be mistaken for Brisbane.
Or changing the search to surname "Brisbane" and first name [blank] with a birth year of 1788 ± 5 years produces 5 results. If you discount the 3 females, you are left with the following two males.
>> Brisbane, Thomas, age 64, mother's maiden surname Cunningham, 1855, Greenock Old or West
>> Brisbane, James, age 86, mother's maiden surname McKechnie, 1869, Springburn
On the basis of the above result, I think it is fair to say that his death was not registered in Scotland.
On Ancestry, the only death I see for an Ebenezer Brisbane is in 1839 in Manchester (could be plausible for Salford), and ages are not given on that record. FindMyPast doesn't add any more records to help.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hi Andrew
Thank you for reply
All the Ebenezer’s you have traced I know who they are thank you for confirming dates
I am not sure where this person got this date and thanks for checking
I am hoping he comes back to me as to where he obtained date and if correct we can get the brisbane line away back to 1547
Here’s hoping
Carol

Hi Carol,
Try this site:
https://www.lancashirebmd.org.uk/bmdsearch.php
From a quick look the Eebenezer who died in Salford in 1839 was only 4.
Best wishes,
Meg

Re: Salford lookup
There is actually another thread here on Talking Scot about the family:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14100
I haven't read it fully [PC is like treacle this morning] but it may fill in a few gaps.
The original Poster carolann hasn't been active for a few years, but hopefully she'll get any replies to her thread.
Find my past does have a death of an E. Brisbane in China in 1876 - no age, so quite a stretch.
There are some Directory entries for Ebenezer Brisbane in Greenock an Engineer 17 Ingleston Street in 1866.
Confusingly Ebenezer is a district in Brisbane Queensland Australia, and also a street in Greenock.

Re: Salford lookup
Hi
Yeah I was on here many years ago but couldn’t get logged back in under old user name so I re registered and seen all the old messages
Now I have retired thought it was time to pick up where I left off
Thanks for information regarding Ebenezer’s
The one who died in 1892 is my husbands g grandfather and Robert and other Ebenezer his gg and ggg grandfather and know all the rest
Ebenezer born 1788 in Closeburn/Morton I just can’t trace where this person in my heritage obtained date of death for him I am hoping it’s correct then we have the Brisbane line back to 1547 hopefully at some point he will reply to me
Re Brisbane being a place in QLD and Greenock is correct
Thanks again this is a great site with many helpful people

I don't think he is your man, as although the transcription is British, the image seems to refer to US personell.List of US Marine Corps and Army Dead Buried in Shanghai
French Cemetery [Pahsienjao]
Name Brisbane E. , Rate F2c , Date 2/13/76 , Lot 277, Sed. J , Stationed Palos.
Looking through the rest of the image folders - it appears to be about the removal of British remains[ military and civilian] from one cemetery to another in the 1950's. The complications being that US war graves are also included. So I conclude that E. Brisbane mentioned isn't yours.
Sorry to have raised hopes.

Thank you so much and definitely not him
Hopefully I will get confirmed and keep digging
In the meantime I will look at my line of McIlroy’s/Frederick
I am waiting on my DNA coming back so will see what this shows - how much German/Irish I have and whatever else
Thanks again folks
