Postby DavidWW » Fri Apr 07, 2006 7:18 pm

These have just been released to the GROS ScotlandsPeople User Group on a beta test basis, so, hopefully, availability on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk is not that far away .......

1841 Page Numbers

Postby DavidWW » Thu Apr 20, 2006 10:18 am

Be aware that there are only odd page numbers!

The size of the books were around the modern A5 equivalent, so that there are two pages per image, but both pages are indexed under the single reference, to the left hand, odd page number, so........ if you can't find the entry on the LH page then have a look at the RH even-numbered page :!:

I'm not having a good morning. I knew there were several Fife Census missing but did it have to be all the areas I need for the brick wall and then I found Tarbert was missing too  . I have also had no luck at finding a family even though I have done searches on different members and viewed those references which double up. Never mind, all I need is a good find and I will be back to normal :)

Well yipee I was searching on SP & didn't even notice that the 41 was there!
Have found my Gx4Grandmother living with her two daughters & their two daughters-one aged 1 & one aged 5.I then tracked the marriage of my Gx3 niece & then her children & what may be two born Perth & two possibilities in Ireland one in Ballycastle where my brother-in-law's Father hails from.
As an addendum when she(the niece) married in 1856 she does not have illegitimate on her Certificate. She was known by her father's name & he is listed with her Mother going only by her name with no maiden name given. So were they more enlightened then?Or did it just not thought worth mentioning?

Inverness Cromdale/Moray Cromdale

Postby Jean Jeanie » Thu Apr 20, 2006 4:09 pm

Anyone searching in Inverness Cromdale/Moray Cromdale?

Something is wrong with the indexing for these records. Nothing shows up if you select Inverness. If you select Moray they show up in Inverallan.

Having transcribed the 1841 for Freecen I know they should be in Cromdale!!!

I have e mailed SP and told them of the problem.

Hi Jean,

Inverallan is one of these parishes which is set to confuse those seeking their family history. The 1840s Statisical Accounts for Scotland for that parish shows that it is part of the unites parishes of Cromdale, Inverallan and Advie, and that the united parish was spead across the county boundary of Moray and Inverness-shire. It took until 1870 to sort that one out with The Inverness and Elgin County Boundaries Act 1870. So up to that point, you need to consider both counties (and any of these parish names?) for any of these parishes.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew

I had a similar problem a few months ago with BMD's for Cromdale and SP said there was a problem with the indexing and they fixed it.

See viewtopic.php?t=1929&highlight=cromdale

I think this is the same thing again
