Christine
Many thanks
I'm not sure how I'll prove this one and would love to
Can I ask if the CD details the death of Elizabeth Roger who was married to James 2. I have a date of ~1852 but cant confirm it
Regards
John

Hi John
I see Christine is not on the board at the moment so
Elisabeth Rodger married to James Gourly died on 24 Dec 1852 and was interred on 26 Dec 1852. entry from Fife Lair register.
Presumably James was still alive at this time although there is an entry for a James Gourly dying 27 August 1853 in Kilconquhar but there is no other information given.
Note that Elisabeth with an 's' which was a common spelling back then but oddly the surname Rodger was usually spelt with a 'd'.

Hi again John
On scotlandspeople there are five Ja*s Gourl*s born between 1800 & 1810.
they are - by parish
Abbotshall 1800
Carnbee 1800
Kinglassie 1803
Leuchars 1810
St Andrews 1804
The Kinglassie looks like the best one by date but if they were agricultural labourers the family could have moved about a bit between parishes working for different farmers.
I also found out that there was a Dissenting church (United Presbyterian) in Kilconquhar so that might explain why there are no records.
The second Statistical Account for Kilconquhar is quite interesting reading.
This may be one family who are totally elusive. You may have to take a look at, and pay for, the records just to eliminate a couple of them from your future searches.
