Hi Nancy,

Nae bother, and please let me know if these are Thomas SEATON's parents.

William SEATON & Agnes McKAY.

Only for the reason that there is a short 1881 Glasgow Poor Law record for a George SEATON, b~1817 Catrine with the above parents.
He lived in the Govan / Hutchesontown area.
1st wife Hannah Stirling. 2nd wife Agnes Paterson.

Ta - Jack

Hi Nancy,

Wondering if G-GF Archibald was married twice? Maybe his 1865 MC will show him as a widower.
This 1861 census has him as married - can't see Catherine in Glasgow though; but seems she was still living in 1863.

Hi Jack,

I'd be happy to check my McKirdy records for you.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Good of you to take an interest - Jack

Hi Jack, I don't have a great deal on this William McKirdy. I do know that he and Rachael had at least 3 children, Mary Jamieson, William Alexander and John.

Rachel died in 1880 (parents George a harness weaver and Ann Hume)

William Alexander remarried VERY quickly, probably because he was a ships steward and had to get someone quickly to look after the children.

His parents were Alexander McCurdy a Chief officer in the merchant service and Margaret Head.

I have come across this couple before but will need to check my info. William was a popular name for the Houston & Killellan McCurdys some of whom did move to Paisley.

I'll let you know what I find.

Hi Jack, sorry it's taken so long to get back, but i've been in and out of SP searching but there's still a few i cant get.I got DC for Arch Seaton which was Barnhill Poorhouse, and mum Jane Curdy Was Janet McCurdy.Got Seaton/glen Marr, cant get Seaton/Mclean,says no image.Do i have to pay £10 or will i get it in Mitchell when it re-opens.Also looking at Ann Seaton in 41 census, was she Thomas's daughter or Arch's half sister? You've been a great help and i'm just taking my time going through all the siblings.Well it's my birthday today. What's the saying?A year older a year wiser!OR Another day older and deeper in debt???I think the latter describes me.Cheers Nancy.

Hi Nancy,

I'll echo that - Happy Birthday!! :D

Unfortunately the 1841 census doesn't give relationships to the household head - this started in 1851.
I meant Archibald had ½ siblings in Rebecca, Thomas etc., and would think that Ann, Archibald & wee Robert were full siblings.
--
The Mitchell doesn't have the Statutory Records from 1855, though they do have OPRs for the old Strathclyde area - and are adding quite a few other Counties as an when they can. Likewise with censuses.

But Park Circus has them, and it might be worth thinking about a visit if you haven't already done so.
Through the link to NRH Edinburgh they now have ALL Scottish BMDs from 1855 to 2003 as digital images on the computer screen.
At £13 per day it's good value.
As with SP you are limited for photocopies of BCs up to 1904, MCs 1929, DCs 1954, but any later ones can be written down in pencil.

If you're not too sure of going up yourself, and if you so wish, let me know and i could meet you there (Tues to Thurs only!).
It's very difficult to find a parking space - so wouldn't advise bringing a car.
But maybe someone could drop you off at 9.15am, and collect you when you finish at 4pm?

Hi Nancy,

1841 OPR 644-2 Vol 7 p 304 (Gorbals)
31 Oct 1841: "Thomas SEATON and Martha McLEAN both in this Parish" 3days. Married by_____

That's all it said - some other entries had who married by, but not Thomas & Martha's.
--
Did you find Thomas' DC? What were his parent's names?
--
Was Archibald SEATON a widower on his 1865 marriage to Margaret GLEN / REID?
There's this 1863 Poor Relief application, D-HEW 10/1/27, p172.
Catherine (DUNCANSON) SEATON 22, b Rothesay.

Jack

ps, there are quite a few possible marriages in the IGI for Thomas Seaton's children,
this one might be Agnes b ~1851, and mother Martha McLEAN with her in 1881.
