Re: The Sinclairs
Confusing, isn't it? I think the generations are getting mixed up here. Take a deep breath and relax...
The 1891 census pulls them all together nicely. There are father Peter, a harness maker and son Peter, a plumber, in the same household. Lots of Helen Roy Sinclairs to choose from
1891
61 Richard St, Glasgow Barony
Peter Sinclair, 44, Head, born Comrie, Perthshire, Saddler & Harness Maker
Helen Roy Sinclair, 39, born Crieff, Perthshire
Peter Sinclair, 18, Son, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Apprentice Plumber
Christina Roy Sinclair, 17, Daur, born Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Fancy Box Maker
Janet Ferguson Sinclair, 15, Daur, born Crieff, Perthshire, Fancy Box Maker
Alexr Roy Sinclair, 13, Son, born Crieff, Perthshire, Scholar
John Mungo Sinclair, 12, Son, born Crieff, Perthshire, Scholar
Mary Roy Sinclair, 9, Daur, born Crieff, Perthshire, Scholar
George Shatton Sinclair, 7, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scholar
Henry James Sinclair, 5, Son, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Helen Roy Sinclair, 11 mo, Daur, born Glasgow, Lanarkshire
Cheers,
Sarah

Hi Sarah & Gary,SarahND wrote:Well, that question turned out to be complicated... since the Ancestry transcription has them in South Knapdale, which is not one of your choices. So I did a search on SP, getting no hits for any of the people at the hotel in South Knapdale. They all turned out to be in Tarbert. On the Ancestry transcription Peter is said to be 26 years old, but there is no such person on SP. So he's got to be the 28 year old in Tarbert. Fingers crossed!garydevine1995 wrote:so where would i get Peter i dont no what one to go for ?
Regards,
Sarah
Tarbert registration district was made up of part of South Knapdale civil parish and part of Kilcalmonell civil parish. Ancestry use the parishes for their references, GROS use their registration districts, so the two systems don't compare on equal terms.
All the best,

peter sinclair married a helen roy
peter sinclair aged 18 he was then a plumber journemen becuase thats what i have on his death cert and on his daughter birth cert
the henry james sinclair is 5 there and in the 1901 census in argyll it say henry j sinclair brother in law and he is 14 and it says born in glasgow so this all sounds right i havent got a birth cert for either peter or helen roy so i will need to look those up but i doubt it cause it sounds right and i no where they got christina and alex from that was helen parents names so that comes together too its weird too because they go to glasgow et married have on kid then go back to perthshire and then come back down and then both of them died in glasgow

Yes, I'm convinced. Do you have some sort of computer family tree program that you are organizing all this information in? Otherwise, your head is going to start spinning, if it isn't already
It's very helpful to go back and check things quickly, also and to print out family trees for your relatives.
All the best,
Sarah

Re: The Sinclairs
If you look through the Computer and Software Shop forum here there are a number of discussions of software. It depends on whether you use a PC or a Mac. For example:
If you have a PC
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=15821
If you have a Mac
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=13637
There are a number of free programs out there, so it needn't cost anything and will be a great help in keeping your head attached to your body.
Cheers,
Sarah

Re: The Sinclairs
Better to ask a question on the right forum: viewforum.php?f=13
I was actually referring to a program you would just have on your own computer to organize your data, not necessarily an online tree.
Here's a discussion of PAF
http://genealogy.about.com/library/blpaf.htm
And some more suggestions here: http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-fr ... ftware.htm
But ask the TS users in the forum above and see what people prefer.
Best wishes,
Sarah
