Ladies and gents! The marriage license came today's mail . Almost fell over my own feet to sit down and open it . Well well well no Annie , no William , no nothing . Wrong wrong wrong the family member was wrong on All info. Floras mum was Marion young Scott ( my mums exact name prior to marriage . her dad was a John Scott

My grandfathers parents were William Gilmour and Annie Gilmour née Stewart
After 40'years I have. Name or two
I am so pleased

You're welcome! With that new information, I think you should be able to start searching for William and Annie and their parents perhaps, on the censuses and find out more about that line of your tree, which is where Ancestry.com will become really useful for you.

im still not 100 per cent with what I read. Illigitamate as her father had passed away a few years PRIOR but then later on when Isabella married she said her dad was a john inglis- engine fitter and when HER MUM died they said the exact same thing on her death certificate(that her mums husband was JOHN inglis-engine fitter) however ISABELLAS birth says JAMES inglis and he died in 1908 and she apprently was born in 1911.
and her mums marriage was listed as marrying JAMES inglis.
so i have a marriage licence to ellen farren and JAMES inglis in 1906
he died in 1908
isabella born in 1911 to a Hellen Farren (H) says isabella was illigitamate but took last name of INGLIS as her mum was married to a JAMES inglis
isabela gets married and her marriage licence says JOHN iglis 0engine fitter
then ELLEN does in 1956 and on her death certitficate it says JOHN inglis-engine fitter
oh and ellen remarried a man named alex monro in the 1920's
my dad said he doesnt recall ANY man, only granny monro and that Isabella (my dads mum) was an only child
and that granny monro ran a home for people, meaning people stayed there and she kept them? like a house motel or something.apprently that house no longer exists.
sometimes i think maybe that the JAMES was the husband and maybe ellen had a relations with a JON inglis and had isabella? but it doesnt make sense to me.

i can only find ONE isabella in the 1911 to a woman named Helen (whch could have been ellen but put in wrong) and ellens mum and dad were Partick and Rose Farren. these two people are listed on her death cetificate and her marriage licence. so in that regard I have the right woman and then she remarried a monro and my dad said she was a granny monro.He also said if there was an alexander monro then where was HE when granny monro kept this hotel home? he didnt live there....

A person formally known as Helen may often be found on other documents as Ellen, Nell, Nelly or Nellie (there may be other variants). It depends who was the informant to the registrar at that time and what they knew the lady as.

I have lots of Ellen/Helens

My great grandmother was Ellen or Helen, depending on whomever wrote it for her. My grandmother was Helen but was forever called Nellie. Her daughter, my aunt, is Eleanor but also called Helena. So that's another variation for you!

For a completely different name - my other granny was Jane, yet always known as Nettie. I've never worked that one out!
