Hello
I take it to mean that there is no relationship between the bride and groom. Why this would be stated as there are no similar names? I have no idea.

Because it was required.
Look at the wording in the column heading.

Hi All
With regard to the "no relationship" mentions.
Anyone any idea why did the registrar felt it necessary in this particular case to state there was "no relationship"? This does not seem to be the case in the other entry on the same page. Every marriage entry I have has the same column with that heading, but usually there seems to be only mention of a relationship if one does indeed exist - if the bride and groom are cousins for example.
Best wishes
Lesley

Thanks Annette
I wrongly thought it only applied if they had similar names

When I looked at the page earlier I could see that the information entered differed between the two entries but assumed they were written by different people.
Looking at it again I am sure they are both signed by 'Charles Robertson' but not so sure they have been signed by the same person.
I am absolutely awful at explaining things but hopefully if you look at the page again you will understand what I mean.

Hello Melvinboy,melvinboy wrote:Hi,
Thanks for youre reply,I cant trace James Lindsay's birth.I found the parents births Robert Gilmour b.27/3/1822 and Jean Law b.6/9/1833 they were married on 26/11/1852 only 13 years before James Lindsay married Janet Maxwell on the marraige certificate James age looks like 34 and Janets is 18,that was in 1865.That would mean James was born around 1831 before Jean Law was even born and Robert Gilmour was only 9 years old.If im not reading it correctly and James was 24 he would have been born around 1841 which would make Robert Gilmour 19 and Jean Law 8.It just doesnt make any sense to me at all,i have done loads on family trees for years now and this is the first time i have come across this. The bit underneath both James and Janets names on the marraige certificate saying no relationship is a first for me as well.Maybe someone can solve it,thanks again for youre reply....
Where did you find the DOB's for Robert Gilmour and Jean Law?

Hi Anette,
If James Lindsay is his step-son,do you think he was Jean Laws illegitemate child to someone called Lindsay!
