Hello John
Long time no speak!
Why me?
I could never understand why I couldn't find her on SP. I tried so many variations.
I'm the one who had so much trouble with Cromdale Moray/Inverness that SP refunded me 130 credits!
If it wasn't for this board I would have achieved nothing on 3 lines of my family. so a great big =D> =D> =D> to you all
The best thing I ever did was join TS.
You, yourself, even sorted out my PC problems!
Jean

Wow so exciting I have a couple of 1855 Deaths but they are all children.
My brick wall GGrandfather was born 1856 & his brother 1854!!!Well it's their Father who is the brick wall.
this gives fresh hope & it is so exciting when they live so long & you get back another generation.
My brick wall GGGrandfather's wife did a similiar thing with her niece which caused great confusion & much bashing of the card to sort out.
The 1841/1851 census gave me the clue I needed to mkae sense of it all.
So well done all

True parents
Hi folks,
Jean's gg-granny Mary GRANT born abt 1844 got me thinking about the truth of parentage.
Just suppose Mary had never been told that her true parents were Alexander GRANT & Janet BROWN....
And that she grew up as Mary BLAIR believing her parents were William BLAIR & Isabella BROWN.
Mary on her 1866 MC would've naturally said her parents were William & Isabella.
And Mary's 1909 DC did have parents as William & Isabella (informant Mary's son).
But it was very fortunate that Mary had been told,
because what reason was there to ever doubt that William & Isabella were other than her parents?
An 1851 census says she is their daur.
We have a MC & a DC both having the same parent info.
Plus her marriage address in 1866 was where William & Isabella were living in 1861 & 1871.
So can we always really know who our ancestors are....?
I think most of the time the answer is yes.
Jack

ps, well done Jean on finding Janet Anderson's 1855 DC - that was the icing on the cake for you.

pps, but some tearing out of hair might've begun after seeing the 1913 MC of the informant son.
He now says his mother's m.s. is GRANT...!
