I had obviously been looking at the wrong Darroch family, as the 1923 DC for Alexander Dean's wife Margaret Darroch is lists her mother as Susan Ferrie.

There is an 1818 marriage on IGI for Duncan & Susan, but I don't know if its reliable.

Darroch census possibles
Hi Dennis,
These are DARROCH family possibles for 1841 & 1851 from indexes (GWSFHS).
Can't see Duncan and/or Susan in Glasgow 1861 (but they may be elsewhere).

Duncan DAROCH 45 [index has one "R"] - and looks more like DOROCH
