And It Makes Me Shine wrote:Completely changes the context of what you read on the death certificate. From an old rogue with his brains kicked in at the police station. To someone who worked hard right up to his last day and was well regarded by employers. The bad news is I am know addicted to old issues of local papers and will be looking into alot more deaths to see if they give any insight into other strange or untimely deaths.
You need to be very, very careful about such further newspaper research as there is a real danger of addiction :!:  - i.e. it's not just the event that you're looking for that will engage your attention, but all the other fascinating stuff

Seriously, unless the date was after the introduction of Fatal Accident Inquiries, newspaper research is much more likely to provide information of interest and value, as compared with an RCE.

I once spent far too much time looking through New Zealand newspapers online. Equipped with my wireless laptop and a site with tons of free newspapers I was lost for virtually the whole day. Eventually I had to convince myself that there were other things I should be doing.

Although I set out with a certain goal in mind, finding ancestors, I found myself too easily distracted by other stories. They make for an interesting read. When I had 24 hour access to The Scotsman I found myself reading stories about families who were living in the same street as some of my ancestors. Focus is not something I was gifted with. :D

As I have two children with me most of the time the library is a no go so online research is virtually my lot at the moment. It's probably just as well there are not alot of newspaper archives online or I'd never get anything done.

Gary have you tried PM,ing (sending a private message) to "And it makes me shine" as it appears they haven't been here for a couple of years but they might still have the message box active & if they have the same e-mail address it should get through.

Wherever it is they live it certainly sounds desirable.

Greetings again Gary.

I continue to be interested in your research. You have been very lucky, these last few weeks, with your findings, making great progress.

Unfortunately like you my PM to Rab [posted in April 2010] has remained in my OUT box awaiting a visit from Rab.

Rab was active [362 posts] between July 2005 and Feb., 2009 but has not visited TalkingScot since. Rab may have changed email providers so is not getting any notification from TS.

Some of Rab's surnames of interest, and an indicated connection with NZ, is of interest to me. I tried GOOGLING the surnames of interest but they only brought me back to TS. Rab did speak of setting up a web page. When I have time I will go through Rab's posts looking for others, who had an exchange, and possibly exchanged private emails. Perhaps someone has a current address, and will make contact on our behalf.

Got to butt in here. :D

Gary would like to contact 'And It Makes Me Shine'.

Not quite sure if it's that person or Rab that Alan would like to make contact with.

Regards,
Annette

Greetings Gary & Annette.

Thanks Annette.

I stand corrected. Was in too much of a hurry to catch up, after being away a few days, and did not read the whole two pages of forum post.

With "And it makes me shine" the case is some what similar. Active between May 2006 & May 2007 but not visited the site [logged on] since.

The member's log on name, need not have an obvious connection to their real name/s. The Australian, Alan [Currie] tells me he likes a good curry.
