Hello Maggie,

Just tell me if I'm stating the obvious but have you tried searching for the children (Elizabeth and Alexander in the 1861 census)?

Hello Annette M
thankyou for your message
There's no such thing as stating the obvious with me
I'm gratefull for any suggestions on my posts, but to answer your question
yes i have searched for them for Alexander no joy whatsoever, last sighting of him was the 1851 census, and as for Elizabeth well i have a possibility on file.
I found an Elizabeth Chambers age 13 an an orphan living in Anderston there is something wrote at the side of her name that i'm not sure about regarding Bailie McAdam ? i will post the entry i have in the gallery for approval and that way you can see it and maybe's you or another member would be able to enlighten me as to what it means/say's.

I have now found a death cert for the william Chalmers with the wife called Agnes in the 1861 census that i started this update with, but there is no mention of any other wives so it dosen't help me any.But it does give his parents names as a William Chalmers & a Margaret Henderson so looking on the IGI i have come up with him having been born in Penicuik.
This information conflicts with the information that is on this site under the
Dryburgh honorable colliers heading on there it gives details of Elizabeth Dryburgh & William Chalmers and lists Williams parents as Carstairs Chalmers & Catherine Turner. I have been able to take Carstairs back further but haven't "claimed " this lot as family as without finding something on William to prove or disprove it .so i'm still head scratching
kind regards
maggie

Hello Maggie,

The reason I asked is, there is an Alexander Chalmers age 11, an Elizabeth Chalmers age 13 and a Jane Sinclair age 48 all living in St George, Midlothian.

Now I have absolutely no idea if they are all living together as I do not have enough credits to check SP.

Have you looked at that Elizabeth?

I have just read the end of your post and think perhaps I am sending you on a wild goose chase as it sound plausible that you have found your William in Glasgow. :?

Kind regards,
Annette M

Hello Annette
credits at the ready but what did you find them under i have the page showing of Elizabeth CHA*ER* all areas age 12-17 it's showing 23 records and the only one for ST George when i open it (already paid for yonks ago)it is for St Cuthberts and the head is a Margaret a spirit dealer.
if you can advise me what to search for i'd be gratefull
kind regards maggie

Yet again I'm guilty of not reading things properly
quote" youv'e no idea if they are all living together"
No Annette they are not all living together
the Jane Sinclair is a widow washerwoman born Dundee and with a son age 13 called walter and the other is the one i have above Alexander & Elizabeth with Margaret the spirit dealer.
I'll have your head spinning with this lot as well as my own sorry Annette.

Hello Maggie,

That will be the one I found. Sorry.
I only did the search but did not have enough credits to look at the record.

Kind regards,

I'll have a wee scour round the poorhouse index at The Mitchell for the Glasgow people just in case.

Hello Annette
thankyou that would be very kind of you
just to confuse matters the Williams Dc that i found with the wife Agnes ward he didn't die until June of 1862 so that sort of throws a spanner in the works if the Elizabeth the orphan in 1861 is mine.
kind regards

Hello Annette&David
thankyou
Do you think the enumerator was just making notes and just happened to write it there ?
I am reading it as the 2 orphans lived with John & Isabella Clark
kind regards
