Hi Kathy
Hugh and Isabella's children show up in the 1851 census.

Duncan McIntyre, aged 12yrs old
William McIntyre, aged 11yrs old
Margaret McIntyre, aged 9yrs old
Janet McIntyre, aged 2yrs old ------- this strange, according to LDS she was born in 1844
Were Hugh & Isabella mentioned too - ages?
Where was everyone stated as being born?
Where was the address at which this census was taken? I'm guessing Glasgow somewhere?

Janet & Jessie are pretty much interchangeable names in Scotland.
Janet next show up in a marriage to Archibald McKechnie in 1880, on her marriage cert it says her name was Jessie McLachlan McIntyre and or Barns?? Her parents were Hugh and Isablla McIntyre, nee Bell.
This is the way Scottish documents show previous names: so Janet started life as Janet (known as) Jessie McIntyre (with a middle name of McLachlan) by the looks of things ....then she married a Barnes (which you know about) and on this occasion she is marrying again. (John Barnes possibly having died by this point) That looks like her, Jessie McKechnie, on the death entry you found for Isabella.

Hope this makes sense!
Best wishes
Lesley

The Janet on the IGI seems to be an extract:

JANET MCINTYRE
Birth: 13 DEC 1844 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Parents:
Father: HUGH MCINTYRE
Mother: ISOBEL BELL
Batch: C119751

So either the census entry is incorrect, or as Mary said, it is quite possible that the Janet above died, and another subsequent daughter was called Janet.

Hey, just a thought ....could a 7 look like a 2? Depends how it is written - I'm assuming here that you have the actual census entry? (I know she would really have been 6 at the time, but stanger things have happened!)

Best wishes
Lesley

Now that's a real possibility. I know some of the ones I've done can be a real headache, especially if the ages are later scored through but some over zealous statistician  (and then there's the enumerator who didn't dip his pen often enough  )

Hi Lesley,

I can't put my finger on all of the census forms at this moment, but I do have the 1851 & 1871 census.

1851 census 622 (604 ) Ed9 P12 (Barony - Maryhill)
Keppochill.
Hugh McIntyre, head, marr, 34, coal labourer, b fort William, Inv
Isabella McIntyre, wife, marr, 39, ------b Islay, Arl
Duncan McIntyre, son, 12, Iron moulder, b, Dalserf, LKS
William McIntyre, son, 11, scholar, b, Dalserf, LKS
Margaret McIntyre, dau, 9, scholar, b Glasgow, LKS
Janet McIntyre, dau, 2, -------b Maryhill, LKS

In the 1871 census shows Martin Dempster & Daniel Mcintyre, Grandsons, all residing at Garngadhill road, Glasgow.

Hugh McIntyre, head, marr, 60, labourer in iron works, b Argyllshire, Corpach.
Isabella McIntyre, wife, marr,64, b, Kilchoman
See next page?
Martin McIntyre, grandson, 9, scholar, b, LKS, Glasgow. *
Daniel McIntyre, grandson, 4, ----b, LKS, Glasgow

* Martin McIntyre is Martin Dempster, as per legal document I have in my possesion! I have traced Margaret's son, Martin and his Father line down to the present day.

I am just a little manic at the moment, as you can see, finding Hugh and Isabella's parent's is a lifetime quest!

Kind regards

Kathy

Hi Jack,

I think you have helped me before??

As you can see, I'm still trying to "confirm" Isabella's dob and place of birth ----- in order to go further back!

I know her parent's were Duncan & Margaret Bell, nee McIntyre as I have her death cert. The only Margaret McIntyre & Duncan Bell marriage I can find is, 02/05/1784, Glasgow ( 644/01 0026, Scotlands People ) I'm really not sure about that one????

Thank you anyway, Jack, it was very kind of you

Kind Regards

Kathy
