The two parishes are about 8 miles apart. If you don't have it, a useful program to download is parloc
http://www.parloc.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/parlocdl.html
Very useful for folks from Oz like me, who get sometimes confused by what is where in the UK
If you are anywhere near an LDS centre, you can order the parish films and look at all the baptism, marriage and burial records on the one film for a very small fee. (last time I went it was $5AU per film). There is often very little more information than what you see in the index.
Trish
PS there is definitely an extracted marriage on the IGI - the film reference is Old parochial registers, 1681-1857 Church of Scotland. Parish Church of Slamannan
WILLIAM TAYLOR m AGNES SHANKS 16 FEB 1804 Slamannan, Stirling - it should be somewhere on SP

Many thanks Trish1 - had not thought of calling in on a lds centre....
As per the previous post I'm just a bit baffled if the 2 Taylor lads were brothers -
1 29/08/1813 TAYLOR JAMES WILLIAM TAYLOR/AGNES SHANKS FR592 M NEW MONKLAND 651/00 0002
1 13/10/1805 TAYLOR HENRY WILLIAM TAYLOR/AGNES SHANKS FR492 U SLAMANNAN 489/00 0002
Obviously I'd need to find another Marriage record for William and Agnes.

Looking for Dickson, Reid, McGill lines in Scotland. Ord and Potter lines in England.

If you can look at the parish records from the LDS for BOTH parishes, it may help to determine if there are two families, or only one. It seems strange that James only appears in Monkland, if he is a sibling, but you need to see if there are also multi marriages. The marriage register MAY (but only MAY) show the parish of each of the couple, & may give a hint as to why there may be duplicate baptisms. The baptisms MAY give an occupation for the father, which may help determine if one or two families. If they are 2 families, I would think they must be related, as the same given names are used for the children.
Most (if not all) LDS centres in Australia close for the school holidays.
Annette has offered to check the film when she is next at "the Mitchell" so that may resolve the issue and/or provide some very useful information.
