I would like to publicly thank Trish for looking up John and Helen's death records. Helen's was spot on and proves she is my ancestor's sister.
John's father's name is as I expected, His mother's forename wasn't on the index and her surname was given as Mudie not Adam. So the cousinship may be via Mudie instead of Adam or the informant( most likely a child of Helen and John? ) got their maternal and paternal grannies muddled up . Wouldn't be the first time.

And thanks too for pulling out the Watson passnger list data - I did look after I found the Boyds but I didn't spot them. Guess you know your way round those lists much better than I do.
